Akron Lady Locks'
History

The Akron Lady Locks Base Ball Club was formed in 1997 as the
Black Stockings’ female counterpart. The team is based is on the
1866 Vassar College Resolutes.
Although base ball was primarily a male
game, even in its earliest forms there is mention of it being
played by females. When women’s suffrage was on the rise and
several women’s colleges opened in the late 1800s, ladies
looking to develop healthy minds and bodies were more formally
introduced to the sport. Several institutions of higher learning
espoused the belief that women’s base ball clubs helped to
develop character, camaraderie, and discipline.
The Akron Lady Locks’
Club motto:
"On and off
the field, always a lady." |
